Flint & Genesee Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health
Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health
The REACH program works to make healthy choices… easier. REACH works together with community health partners across Greater Flint to help increase access to healthy food, breastfeeding resources, and safe, clean spaces for physical activity for Black and Brown families in Genesee County. REACH desires to empower African American and Hispanic families with culturally relevant resources to achieve healthier lifestyle changes.
REACH
- Partners with food vendors, distributors, and producers to increase the number of healthy foods bought and sold.
- Improves local nutrition programs and food systems by supporting local food pantries in churches, health centers, and mobile markets that follow nutrition standards that increase access to healthy foods.
- Supports breastfeeding moms by working with partners to establish breastfeeding rooms in workplaces, places of worship, and more to support Black and Brown mothers in their breastfeeding journey.
REACH values its partnerships with:
Flint Fresh, Hurley Food FARMacy, The Crim Fitness Foundation, You Overcoming Lactation Obstacles (YOLO), Refuge Temple Food Pantry, Fairhaven Food Pantry, Holy Redeemer Outreach, and Michigan State University.
REACH is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 5-year cooperative grant-funded program that seeks to decrease negative health outcomes among African American and Hispanic families across the United States.
