GENESEE COUNTY, MI (June 12, 2024) – The Greater Flint Health Coalition’s Commit to Fit program is set to host its third annual Physical Activity Outreach Week between June 24 and June 28.

Physical Activity Outreach Week is open to all Genesee County residents and features various fitness opportunities available to all ages, fitness levels, and abilities throughout Flint and Genesee County. Physical activity is an important component of healthy living as it can help prevent and manage chronic diseases, support mental wellbeing, and improve a person’s overall quality of life. Exercise is medicine and Physical Activity Outreach Week is the perfect way for Flint and Genesee County residents to get their daily dose. Physical Activity Outreach Week is a great opportunity for those looking to either begin or add some variability to their fitness routine to get active. Activities are hosted all throughout the community at local parks, senior centers, fitness centers, and more! The best part? Community members can participate for free!

Commit to Fit Health Education Coordinator, Alaina Larrea, states, “Cost can be a barrier to getting enough exercise, which is why we are excited to connect residents with free opportunities they might not be aware of. It’s important to make sure everyone can access opportunities for physical activity and highlighting free fitness classes going on in the community is a great way to bring people out, meet them where they’re at, and help increase those positive health behaviors. This week includes options for all ages and abilities and we’re really proud of that.”

Community members can review the calendar of events for Physical Activity Outreach Week at www.gfhc.org. These free opportunities do not cease to exist when Physical Activity Outreach Week concludes. Commit to Fit and partnering organizations throughout the county have opportunities to stay active all year long. The conclusion of Physical Activity Outreach Week marks the kickoff of July’s Walk to Wellness Challenge. Call (810)232-2228 or email [email protected] for additional details or to register.
