“Healthy Flint & Genesee County 2020” Report to the Community Released by the Greater Flint Health Coalition

Genesee County, MI (September 12, 2013) – The Greater Flint Health Coalition (GFHC) has released its Healthy Flint & Genesee County 2020 Report to the Community – a strategic vision-based publication that outlines priority areas for improving the factors that impact health in Flint and Genesee County, as established by the GFHC’s 2020 Strategic Business Plan.

Healthy Flint & Genesee County 2020 details the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s collective impact strategy while outlining key priority areas of action via collaborative efforts that are required to achieve meaningful improvements in the community’s individual and collective health and wellbeing:

  1. Promote Improved Health Behaviors
  2. Be Tobacco & Smoke Free
  3. Commit to Fit! to Reduce & Prevent Obesity
  4. Focus on Our Future: Promote Healthy Children & Adolescents
  5. Promote Access to High Quality Health Care for All
  6. Improve Diabetes Support, Identification, & Prevention
  7. Promote Heart Health
  8. Create Coordinated Children’s Healthcare Access
  9. Develop a Community System for Advance Care Planning
  10. Create, Redesign, & Expand Health Promoting Environments
  11. Develop a Skilled, Diverse Healthcare Workforce
  12. Collaboratively Monitor Health Data to Measure Our Progress.

The rationale behind each priority area’s importance to the Flint and Genesee County community, how action in these areas can and will lead to targeted improvements, and how leading indicators will be monitored to measure progress and long-term improvement for each of the priority areas is detailed in the report.

Established in 1996, the Greater Flint Health Coalition is a Flint, Michigan-based non-profit health coalition – a true partnership between Genesee County hospitals, physicians, business, insurers, public health professionals, policymakers, government leaders, educators, organized labor, community organizations, residents, and all those concerned about the well-being of our community and its residents. The two-fold mission of the Greater Flint Health Coalition is to improve the health status of Genesee County residents and the quality and cost-effectiveness of the health care delivery system in the community.
