Flint & Genesee County Contact Tracing Workgroup

GFHC and the Genesee County Health Department have collaborated to establish a Flint/Genesee County Contact Tracing Workgroup designed to develop local workforce capacity to support COVID-19 contact tracing efforts in our community. As part of this Workgroup, local agency partners have recruited more than 50 local volunteers identified from partner organizations to assist with contact tracing efforts.

Interested in volunteering? Sign up here. All local volunteers must complete registration, training, a confidentiality agreement, and a background screening via the MDHHS volunteer management contractor.

What is Contact Tracing?

Contact Tracing is a tool that can help slow the spread of COVID-19. Your local Health Department will ask about individuals who you have had close contact with. Your Health Department will then notify those individuals indicating they may have been exposed. This process is confidential.

What to expect when you receive a phone call from the Health Department for contact tracing?

Conversations with health department staff are confidential. This means that your personal and medical information will be kept private and only shared with those who may need to know, like your health care provider.

Your personal information including your name and contact information will not be shared with those you came in contact with. The health department will only notify people you were in close contact with (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) that they might have been exposed to COVID-19.

Contact tracing helps protect you, your family, and your community by:

  • Letting people know they may have been exposed to COVID-19 and should monitor their health for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Encouraging people who may have been exposed to COVID-19 get tested.
  • Asking people to self-isolate if they have COVID-19 or self-quarantine if they are a close contact.
