Commit to Fit! Active Schools Challenge Open to K-12 Schools in Genesee County

To promote health and wellness within local schools while creating some “healthy” competition, Commit to Fit!, in conjunction with the Genesee Intermediate School District, announces the 2016 Active Schools Challenge. The Challenge seeks to engage all 21 Genesee County school districts to participate and promote physical activity among their students.

During the month of March, students and teachers from Active Schools Challenge participating schools will track their physical activity, with a daily goal of being active for 30 minutes. The school with the highest average minutes of physical activity during the month of March will receive a monetary donation for use towards health and wellness programming. Students that reach the daily physical activity goal will also be entered into a raffle drawing to win prizes such as gift cards, skating passes, and more!

“We know that kids that are active during the day generally perform better academically. The Commit to Fit! Active Schools Challenge is an opportunity to encourage kids to get moving and win prizes for their school while doing so” states Nichole Smith-Anderson, Project Manager at the Greater Flint Health Coalition. “We are looking forward to making this an annual event in Genesee County, similar to the Commit to Fit! Fall 4 Fitness Business to Business Challenge.”

This Challenge is sponsored by the Greater Flint Health Coalition, the Hurley Foundation, Genesys Health System, the Crim Fitness Foundation, and ELGA Credit Union.
