City of Flint Mayor Praises GFHC in “State of the City” Address

In his February 24, 2011 “State of the City” address, City of Flint Mayor Dayne Walling spoke to the City of Flint’s commitment to improving the health of its residents, with an emphasis on children. Earlier that month, the City of Flint was recognized by First Lady Michelle Obama for becoming the 500th city in the nation to join the Let’s Move campaign, which seeks to raise a healthier generation of kids and combat the growing childhood obesity epidemic.

During his address, Mayor Walling recognized the efforts of the GFHC to improve the community’s health, and made note of the forthcoming community-wide campaign (Commit to Fit) to improve physical activity and combat critical health challenges such as obesity in Flint.
