On September 28, 2010, Merck Pharmaceuticals and the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s Pharmacy Task Force will welcome Shawn Christopher Shea, M.D., an internationally acclaimed workshop leader and innovator in the fields of medication adherence improvement and clinical interviewing.
Dr. Shea, who has given over 250 talks to primary care clinicians on such topics, will speak to local providers regarding innovative interviewing topics designed specifically to improve medication adherence for patients.
This event is an outgrowth of the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s (GFHC) Pharmacy Task Force, which identified medication adherence as a key health issue in Genesee County. Nationally, 54% of patients do not consistently take prescriptions as instructed, and medical spending resulting directly from non-adherence accounts for up to $290 billion per year.
The event includes dinner and is free of charge for local providers (audience listed below). It is sponsored by Merck Pharmaceuticals and supported by the Greater Flint Health Coalition’s Pharmacy Task Force.
